Phenology, Growth and Productivity

Monitoring budburst and foliage development

Sessile oak and Scots pine budburst is monitored since 2013. Observations are made on 21 experimental plots of either monospecific sessile oak, monospecific Scots pine , or a mixture of both tree species. In the case of sessile oak in monospecific plots, the foliage development is also monitored indirectly thanks to global radiation sensors set up under the forest cover (see perot al. 2019 doi: 10.1016/j.agrformet.2019.05.010).

In 2020, the OPTMix device has been integrated into the SOERE TEMPO network.

What are the mixture effects on productivity, resistance, and resilience of the stands?

Seasonal radial growth is studied on a stratified selection of 216 trees, belonging to the open modalities (without fences), and to the dynamic and conservative densities scenario modalities. In addition, two of the three control plots were recently equipped with dendrometers (36 trees), the last control plot will be equipped during the 2015/2016 winter.

The radial growth will be linked to water regime in order to investigate if the differences in water balance between stand types (density and composition) result in differential individual tree response (growth, resistance and resilience to climatic events).
